Breaking out of old patterns

topic posted Fri, June 10, 2005 - 7:44 PM by  KiMbErLeE
Old patterns, thought processes and ideas can be hard to break especially if you are conditioned to think of something as/in a certain way. Breaking free from this mental plane is so refreshing and can give a person a whole new outlook. One where you are more free to breath, and just be in the moment without all of that brain chatter bossing you around.
Anyone experience a though process, idea, pattern that needed a re-vamp or to be dumped completely?

        I HATE when that happens!

Not really. Well, yes I do - at first. I HATE being criticized or having my (myriad) failings pointed out. However, I usually appreciate it in the long run.

There is a love/hate relationship with being aware. Oh how sweet it is though.
The thing I do not like is when something is called to you that is not a part of your life but a mere projection of someone else.

Oh, man, no kidding. You should check out the Empaths Alike tribe...you might fit in there if you aren't there already.

It is particularly hard to differentiate when someone is projecting on you their own faults or worse - fears. If you are like me, you then go through the whole "Is it me?" "Could it be me" and the like ad nauseam.

One thing that, after (as I like to say) $4 million dollars worth of therapy, I have gained is the knowledge that blaming myself or taking on the blame/responsibility for something gives me the illusion of control over it. For instance, I grew up in a really screwed up family. In order to deal with it, I made all the dysfunction my fault and if I could only be good enough, things would be better. Well, the sad truth is that I never could be good enough...and almost nailed myself to a cross (quite literally) in the process. But you see, if I were responsible, I had some control over it and I wasn't really subject to the randomness of the universe.

Hope that makes some kind of sense.

            D.

Yes! Yes! I hear you on that.

              "Is it me?"
              "Is it their projection?"
"How do I look at this?"

As a virgo I tend to be my own worst critic so I take it all to heart. Be it someone's projection or a true issue for me to look at. It is easy for me to look at something of my own understanding and stand back, figure it out, and move on toward a place I want to be. The projection thing is a whole other bag for me. I hear it, , wonder is it me or is this true in anyway, feel hurt and confused, deal with the anxious feeling in my tummy, then decide where to go from there. Do I stand up and say "whoa that is not true", let it go etc...

Whew it feels nice to have that weird phenomena off my chest.

              Cheers to you

If visualization works for you, think of it as a big luggage rack at the airport going round and round. Check the tag of the baggage - if it's not yours, don't pick it up!

Pin-pointing the change you want to make is the hardest step to take.......if you're conditioned with a certain way of believing......then you're most likely on "auto-pilot" and not even fully conscious about it. Once it's brought to the fore front of your awareness.....it's kind of easy from there - depending on how dedicated you are to change.

I'm the queen of pattern change.
